Thoughts in 2019
I have rediscovered my blog, set up many years ago for the purpose of informing my grandchildren something about their history and my state of mind over the years.
My mother passed away Friday, March 24, 2017. Her last six months on earth were spent in Hospice care at the nursing home. She only left her bed twice in that period of time. She pretty much quit eating and became bactitechhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05869138888053004518noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6036857.post-66386900651846017812013-06-29T18:29:00.000-04:002013-06-29T18:29:09.107-04:00DementiaEnrolled mom in a study to help her memory. Talked to the researcher yesterday and it seems okay to proceed, as it will give her something to do.
What surprised me was that she has been evaluated on the GDS-FAST (Global Deterioration Scale - Functional Assessment Staging) and she is at a 3.8 level. A "3" is "Early confusional/incipient dementia of Alzheimer's type) and a "4" is "Late bactitechhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05869138888053004518noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6036857.post-69106682220438409822011-04-17T21:40:00.000-04:002011-04-17T21:40:45.652-04:00Moving Great-GrandmaMy mom, your great grandmother, got sick in February, 2011. She had a clot on her right lung. She has been frail for the last two years. She entered the rehab unit at a nice local nursing home. Unfortunately, she has to stay there full time now, as my sister, your great aunt, and I can no longer trust that she will be okay living alone.
It has been very difficult for the two of us to watch bactitechhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05869138888053004518noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6036857.post-78091402687699046482010-09-22T18:48:00.000-04:002010-09-22T18:48:04.469-04:00A dull dayToday was a dull day. However, not every day is exciting so this is what went on.
I got up fairly early, for me, to get to the Scion dealership by 11:00 a.m. to get the oil changed. This 6 month/5000 mile service was included in the purchase price of my car, and I thought I'd better get this taken care of while I was thinking about it. The appointment was easily booked online late on the eveningbactitechhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05869138888053004518noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6036857.post-76192197622430929222010-09-17T23:49:00.000-04:002010-09-17T23:49:20.180-04:00Sitting around with my grandsons todayWe were going to go to the library today. However, I didn't get up till 10 a.m. and didn't get over to Katie's till 11:30 a.m. Miles was spitty-uppy and Katie was sleep deprived. Miles wanted to eat (again) and we finally decided to bag the library trip for another day.
After Katie went up for a much needed snooze, I held Miles for a bit and then put him in the bouncy chair with his binky. My cousin, (her dad is my mom's brother) had her right middle lobe removed today. She quit about ten years ago. However, her 2-3 pack-a-day habit caught up with her. The surgeon has said they got it all and she shouldn't have to have either chemo or radiation. I hope that is the case and I wish her the best.

He was 6 pounds, 14 ounces, but now (Sept. 12, 2010) he is up over eight pounds. Miles is a sweetheart - very content to have his bottle and loves to be held almost constantly. There is so much happening in the family, in the news, in the world. I don't know where to begin. You, my dear boy, are an absolute sweetheart. Most of them are good memories. July 4, 1969 is one I'll never forget. My earliest memories of the 4th of July are at my Grandma's house. In Toledo, the big fireworks display for the city used to take place at Walbridge Park, which was only about two blocks from their house. The park was full of people all day long on the holiday. My dad used to tell stories about a cat he had named Sally, who guarded her kittens with her life and got onto the backs of any dogs who came near. When I was born, my parents had a cat named Bunny (after Bunny Berrigan, a jazz trumpeter my dad liked). I guess Bunny got the boot when I tried to sit on her and she took a swipe at my face. About a month ago, a large branch broke off over our side door and was just hanging by the bark. We knew it had to get trimmed off but a cherry picker was needed, as the branch was about three stories up. We also had a dead tree out in the way back yard and some other trimming needed to be done. So, some big bucks later, the dead ash tree (another victim of bactitechhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05869138888053004518noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6036857.post-14319712696979469262008-01-13T00:53:00.000-05:002008-01-13T01:26:11.984-05:00Thoughts on TreesI drove by the "big house" last Thursday. I try to go down the street every once in awhile just to see how it's holding up. It looks a bit frayed around the edges but it's mostly in good shape. Many of the trees that used to be on the street have died and have been taken down, although the big tree in front of the house is still there. The garage door was open and it didn't look as big as I bactitechhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05869138888053004518noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6036857.post-14346656358517952032007-12-27T23:48:00.000-05:002007-12-28T00:30:36.520-05:00Memories of the Big House - UpstairsSorry I haven't continued this for awhile, but Christmas really takes a lot of time. I will address Christmas memories at some point in the future. This installation will address memories I have of the physical layout of my Grandmother's upstairs. We moved in June of that year. There doesn't seem to be many pictures in between that time until Barb appeared in April, 1952. I was 3 1/2 when she appeared.I have been told by mom and my grandmothers in the far distant past that I was potty trained at 18 months. I'm not sure if there were delivery charges attached, or if it was just included in the cost of doing business (as I was too young to pay bills back then :-)).Our most common delivery was milk. We used Sealtest. The Sealtest truck was a grayish mauve color with a reddish/cranberry Sealtest logo, as I bactitechhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05869138888053004518noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6036857.post-87086757340764180982007-11-26T01:06:00.000-05:002007-11-26T11:38:51.937-05:00The Yellow KitchenWhen I think back to what my earliest memories are, there are only snapshots in my mind - sort of like a picture with no dialog to go with it. I seem to have a very foggy memory of being in a yellow kitchen. I don't think our kitchen on Tully was ever yellow. I think I asked mom about this once and I _think_ she said that the kitchen on Federal St. was yellow. I have received word recently that my cousin is in hospice. She is only three weeks older than I. I have decided there are many things I want to tell Oliver and any future grandchildren that I have and time could be a-wasting. I don't have any time line in mind. I was on culture station again tonight and it was nonstop for eight hours. The workload is just getting too much for one person to handle on a Saturday. Our lab's business seemingly has doubled since then. The specimens come in bags - some chock full. It's like the "I Love Lucy" show where she and Ethel can't keep up with the assembly line. The in-house specimens are fraught with paperwork errors. I'm not sure why this is so. I cannot understand for the life of me how anyone could still be on the fence. Right now I'm listening to a reply of the second debate on C-span. These are great and worth a read.
It seems that everything is Reagan all the time on all media. Bah. Everyone seems to forget a lot of things about him. I never could stomach him or Nancy, and now we're inundated 24/7. The Clarke deal may or may not make a difference in November. I'm sure hoping it helps Kerry's side.
We've been married 28 years as of tomorrow. It's inconceivable that it's been that long. I have a hard time believing that time flies so quickly. We're going out to eat - should be fun.
